From Past to Present Podiums: Mapping Olympic Performance Transitions

This analysis aims to show visually how the countries have performed historically in the summer Olympic games.
For that, in the first moment, a data cleaning and transformation was performed using SQL server, and in the second moment, an interactive dashboard was created. This allows an overall view of the number of competitors and medals awarded, editions already held, and nationalities present, among other aspects. In addition, it is possible to verify the gender distribution over the years, the evolution of medals awarded since the first edition and also access relevant information regarding sports, nations and competitors.
The filters present allow a detailed view of any information that interests the reader.
GOAL
The main purpose of this analysis is to understand how the performance of the different countries changed during the Summer Olympic Games. In this way, the following questions are aimed at answering:

How has the number of male and female athletes has evolved over the years?

Which sport has won more medals during the 120 years of the Olympic Games?

Which athlete stands out from the rest in terms of medals?
RESULT
The Summer Olympic Games have been gaining more and more importance over the years already counting 120 years of history. In fact, over the years, the organizations have followed human evolution, counting, edition after edition, with more athletes, more nations, more sports and therefore more medals.
The grandiosity of these games can only be highlighted, counting on numerous nationalities, sports, and athletes, showing a great evolution over the years and becoming the major international multi-sport event that any athlete wants to participate in during his or her sports career.

INSIGHTS
The number of competitors, both female and male, has increased over the years. As a result, the number of medals awarded has also increased.
The number of males in the competition is substantially higher than the number of females, however, this discrepancy has been decreasing over the years.
The competitor who stands out significantly from the others is the American athlete Michael Phelps with a total of 28 medals, of which 23 are gold medals.
Athletics and Swimming are the two sports where the most medals have been awarded and the United States is the nation with the highest medal record in the competition.
